WHAT is a HOMEOPATH?

A Homoeopath has similar, and equally intense, training as a Naturopath and Herbalist. The difference is that a Homoeopath will use only homoeopathic preparations in order to restore health. They may or may not use nutrition.

There are 2 types of Homeopaths:
Classical and Modern .

A practitioner trained in Classical homoeopathy generally has extensive (3-4 year) training and will usually only prescribe one homoeopathic remedy at a time. A Modern homoeopath often has less intense training and will often use more than one remedy at a time to help the body restore balance. An initial session will last 1-2 hours; review sessions will last 20-60 minutes, depending on client needs.

WHAT is HOMEOPATHY?

Homoeopathy is the science of using very diluted substances to create balance in the body. The concept of homoeopathy is not new - in c.450 Hippocrates, a Greek physician, noted that things that cause illness could be used to treat illnesses they caused. Throughout history, the theory was tossed around, but it wasn't until the mid 1700's that Dr. Samuel Hahnemann (1755-1843) made it his life work; and the homoeopathic principle, as we now know it, was formalized into a medical system.

There are thousands of homoeopathic medicines but before a remedy can be chosen, a case history must be taken and the whole person (including their mind and emotions) must be assessed. A remedy is then selected; one that fits the best
"symptom picture."

A "symptom picture" is a list of symptoms that arise when a diluted homoeopathic substance is taken by a healthy person.
For example: when ingested by a healthy person, cinchona bark (China) produces symptoms that are very similar to that of malaria. Therefore, when a person has true symptoms of malaria, cinchona bark can be use (in homoeopathic form) to alleviate or reverse, the symptoms. This method of healing is referred to as "like cures like" and is the basis for homoeopathy.

Because they are diluted from their original substances, homoeopathic remedies are safe, gentle and effect when used with respect. There are cases where the symptoms being addressed may appear worse for a day or two, but that is only the body healing and symptoms should begin clearing quickly after that.

It is extremely important that, when working with homoeopathy for chronic dis-ease, that you work with a qualified and well-trained Homoeopathic practitioner. It is best that you avoid self-prescribing, unless the condition you are working with is an acute condition; for example: cold or 'flu. In this case, you could select the appropriate remedy according to your 'flu symptoms. Many companies now make low-dose homoeopathic "generals" - remedies, in combination, that address particular ailments such as colds, 'flu, allergies, and teething. These remedies work to support the body during short-term illness and are not to be used for chronic ailments.
